The Joker: A Game of Psychogeographical Incidental Urban Poker

The Joker

A Game of ‘Psychogeographical’ Poker
21st March 2016, 6.30pm, Divus, Enclave 5, 50 Resolution Way, Deptford, SE8 4AL

Do lost playing cards congregate on ‘leylines’? Can their emergent order be understood as an expression of chaos theory? Or do they wash up at our feet according a quirky
side-effect of the 2nd Law of Thermodynamics? Are the bizarre coincidences that these cards manifest related to the found objects of Surrealism and its doctrine of ‘Objective Chance’? These questions and more will be explored through the medium of poker – 6pm, March 23rd, Divus, London.

Come to witness the culmination of a game of poker three years in the making, and, perhaps, begin new games. The players will be competing only with cards they have found in the street. Following a brief contextualisation of the game given by one of its inventors, along with some regular players, each card will be introduced in terms of where and by what means it was discovered, in the hope of piecing together the emergent patterns evinced in the flotsam of these ludic urban currents.
